Speak (Latham, 1962)

"It will live in your mind". -- Ray Durgnat.
Dura 10 minutos. Reseña vía Kenneth Goldsmith--
Being obsessed with this recording I did a search of the forum archives and only saw two or three mentions of it. I imagine that lots of fans aren't aware it exists. IMO this is the Floyd holy grail. It also might be the most obscure Pink Floyd recording of all. As far as I know none of the members of the Floyd have even mentioned it in interviews.
A little back-story...John Latham was one of the more controversial conceptual artists in the 1960's (think Yoko Ono, Fluxus). A couple of Latham's films, most notably Speak, were projected behind the Floyd's live set at the International Times launch at the Roundhouse in October '66 and later at a few shows in early 1967. He also had something to do with a 1/67 gig at the Commonworth Institute in London. It was mentioned in a local paper but the description it pretty vague. Anthony Stern thought he did some sort of set design. Back to the soundtrack.
Speak is an 11 minute animated film that was known for it's intense flicker/strobe effect when shown in London area psychedelic clubs. That being the case Latham thought the Floyd would be a good match for its soundtrack.

The film centers around Valmont and Juliette de Merteuil, a married couple who aid each other in pursuing extramarital affairs. "Pannonica" scores the scene in which Valmont first meets Cécile, the young woman who becomes his newest pursuit. As their eyes meet, the music enters. While Monk's dissonant blue notes suggest Valmont's darker character, saxophonist Charlie Rouse truly sets the tone for the song, tapping into his tenor's reedier sonorities to underscore Valmont's seedy intentions. "Pannonica" hints at the delight and despair to come, as Monk's twisting blend of bitter melancholy and sweet romance sets the tone for the rest of the film and the rest of the score. Vía NPR

Polímeros, palíndromos & memorias: revisitando Gattaca

Gattaca (Niccol, 1997)
Suena a Titán. Huele a ahora, 2017).

Cheetara (Ted Wolf, 1985-1989)

"When the time of Lion-O's Anointment Trials came, it was Cheetara's task, as the fastest of the ThunderCats, to try Lion-O in speed. Lion-O knew he could not beat Cheetara in a race, and so took a dangerous western route as an alternative. Already miles ahead of Lion-O, Cheetara ran into the Mutants, who pursued her on land and underwater. Luckily Panthro arrived in the Thundertank to assist the outnumbered Cheetara. Cheetara was ahead by a mile and two thirds, eventually coming face to face with Lion-O, they raced alongside one another to the finish of their race. Lion-O knew he could not win the race in this way, but his sheer determination allowed him to. Lion-O at first believed Cheetara had let him win, something which offended her, as the code of Thundera forbade such action. The distance they ran actually exhausted Cheetara's super speed, and she told him that his determination not to lose had allowed him to win the race." -- Vía

On the Silver Globe (Andrzej Żuławski, 1987)

"As it exists today On the Silver Globe is only partially complete, a victim of censorship by Poland’s communist government. Fortunately Zulawski returned to Poland to rescue the film in the late 1980s after a period of self-imposed exile following the implosion of his masterpiece, so we have at least some idea of what could’ve been.
At once the retelling of a 100-year old sci-fi novel written by Zulawski’s granduncle, a meditation on communist Poland, and a deeply personal insight into the breakdown of Zulawski’s marriage, On the Silver Globe is a kaleidoscopic tour de force that was almost swallowed by history."

"[La Medalla Fields] was completely irrelevant for me. Everybody understood that if the proof is correct, then no other recognition is needed [;] I'm not interested in money or fame [,] I don't want to be on display like an animal in a zoo. I'm not a hero of mathematics. I'm not even that successful; that is why I don't want to have everybody looking at me."
Comparto un documental ruso sobre Perelman.
Dura casi una hora. & hay que prender el english cc.

Mr. Freedom (Klein, 1969)

Karamakate (Joven)
Colombia está haciendo películas cabronas. El Abrazo de la Serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent), de Ciro Guerra, es la mejor evdidencia de ello. Bella película--filmada en 35mm, blanco & negro:

There’s nothing like it. Video is good for artificial lighting and urban stories, but I don’t trust the perfection of the video image. For the portrayal of nature and natural light, film is irreplaceable.--Ciro Guerra
Mítica, mística, política & onírica. Estoy de acuerdo con @jhoffman---
Ciro Guerra’s gorgeous picture just has that ripped-from-your-dreams sensibility, where surprising turns float alongside a story you feel like you’ve known your whole life. Embrace of the Serpent is the type of film we’re always searching for, yet seems so obvious once we’ve found it.

Mind Game (dir: Yuasa / Morimoto, 2004)

Vi The Fifth Element mucho antes de enterarme que existe The Incal, de Moebius & Jodorowsky---demandaron a Luc Besson: claiming that the film borrowed graphic and story elements from The Incal, but they lost their case.[1] In a 2002 interview with Danish comic book magazine Strip!, Jodorowsky actually claimed that he considered it an honour that somebody stole his ideas. Jodorowsky believes that authors do not create the stories they tell as much as they make personal interpretations of mythemes shared by the collective unconscious.

A while ago, I reunited a bunch of artists from the original “Heavy Metal” movie, to produce a trailer based upon this great work. Then I got busy building my company and it sat on my shelf until a few months back, when I decided to revamp it with today’s digital punch. Two sequences from the original “Heavy Metal” movie were borrowed from Moebius’s work; “The Long Tomorrow” story and “Arzach”. Given that till this day, Moebius and Jodorowsky are heralded as some of the world’s greatest Sci-Fi visionaries; it seems to me that a film, based on their work would be even more successful than one inspired by it. Bringing these incredible artists’s work to the big screen, I am convinced would be a great success...so much so that I animated and directed this piece with other like artists.

The eye is brown in a tiny screen. On the metallic surface below, the words VOIGHT-KAMPFF are finely etched. There’s a touch-light panel across the top and on the side of the screen, a dial that registers fluctuation of the iris. (Blade Runner, Hampton Fancher, David Peoples, 1981.)

What the Future Sounded Like (2006)

The routing matrix on the VCS3
Descubrí esta película vía r/retrofuturism
From Dr Who to The Dark Side of the Moon to modern day dance music, the pioneering members of the Electronic Music Studios radically changed the sound-scape of the 20th Century. What the Future Sounded Like tells this fascinating story of British electronic music. What The Future Sounded Like mixes experimental visual and sonic techniques with animation and never-seen-since archival footage. A sonic and visual collage, this documentary colours in a lost chapter in music history, uncovering a group of composers and music engineers who harnessed technology and new ideas to re-imagine the boundaries of music and sound.---Vía

The Blue Book (Wittgenstein, 1958)
[A] queer kind of medium, the mind; and the mechanism of the mind, the nature of which, it seems, we don't quite understand, can bring about effects which no material mechanism could. Thus e.g. a thought (which is such a mental process) can agree or disagree with reality; I am able to think of a man who isn't present; I am able to imagine him, 'mean him' in a remark which I make about him, even if he is thousands of miles away or dead. "What a queer mechanism," one might say, "the mechanism of wishing must be if I can wish that which will never happen".
The Blue Book (Wittgenstein, 1958, p. 16)
There is an objection to saying that thinking is some such thing as an activity of the hand. Thinking, one wants to say, is part of our 'private experience'. It is not material, but an event in our private consciousness. This objection is expressed in the question: "Can machines think?" [...] "Can a machine have toothache?" You will certainly be inclined to say: "A machine can't have toothache?". All I will do now is to draw your attention to the use which you have made of the word "can" and to ask you: "Did you mean to say that all our past experience has shown that a machine never had toothache?" The impossibility of which you speak is a logical one. The question is: What is the relation between thinking (or toothache) and the subject which thinks, has toothache, etc.?"
Vía
Mind 49 (A. M. Turing, 1950)
I propose to consider the question, "Can machines think?" This should begin with definitions of the meaning of the terms "machine" and "think". The definitions might be dangerous, If the meaning of the words "machine" and "think" are to be found by examining how they are commonly used it is difficult to escape the conclusion that the meaning and the answer to the question, "Can machines think?" is to be sought in a statistical survey such as a Gallup poll. But this is absurd. Instead of attempting such a definition I shall replace the question by another, which is closely related to it and is expressed in relatively unambiguous words.

Think that a small class of human beings could not pass the Voigt-Kampff scale. If you tested them in line with police work you'd assess them as humanoid robots. You'd be wrong, but by then they'd be dead.

Actroid-F, which was billed as "the fist true android" by Guiness World Records, weighs just 30 kg and is 140 cm tall (in a sitting position). Wait a few years for her makers to reduce the mechanical and chopping motions, make her walk, and act more independently.

The Blue Book (Wittgenstein, 1958)
[T]he problem here arises which could be expressed by the question: "Is it possible for a machine to think (whether the action of this machine can be described and predicted by the laws of physics or, possibly, only by laws of a different applying to the behaviour of organisms). And the trouble which is expressed in this question is not really that we don't yet know a machine which could do the job. The question is not analogous to that which some might have asked a hundred years ago: "Can a machine liquefy a gas?" The trouble is rather that the sentence, "A machine thinks (perceives, wishes): seems somehow nonsensical.

The dreams of Google's AI are equal parts amazing and disturbing (Adam Epstein, 2015)
American sci-fi novelist Phillip K. Dick once famously asked, 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?  While he was on the right track, the answer appears to be, no, they don't. They dream of dog-headed knights atop horses, of came-birds and pig-snails, and of Daliesque mutated landscapes.

Gyrating Animatronic Doll Will Haunt Your Dreams (Robbie Gonzalez, 2014)
Presented here for the first time, Wolfson's animatronic sculpture combines, film installation, and performance in the figure of a curvaceous scantily clad woman covered in dirt marks and wearing a witch mask. Unlike the artists's two-dimensional subjects, this life size character was developed in close collaboration with a special effects studio in California used by major Hollywood productions. The woman can be encountered on a one-to-one basis in a mirrored room in the gallery, creating a different kind of viewing experience that intensifies the importance of the gaze found in Wolfson's work.
